Care instructions for synthetic hair
Wigs and hairpieces made of synthetic hair are very popular and widespread. Today, synthetic hair fibres are of such convincing quality that they can hardly be distinguished from human hair visually and haptically. Synthetic hair is available in many authentic brilliant colours. The memory effect of synthetic hair fibres ensures that the hair retains its original shape after washing. However, standard synthetic hair does not have the same features as human hair, despite its optical similarity. For example, it is sensitive to heat and therefore cannot be styled with a hair dryer, curler or straightener. One exception is modern high-heat hair, a synthetic fibre that is heat-resistant and can also be styled using thermal tools (straighteners, curling irons). When it comes to care, synthetic hair has different needs to human or natural hair. Synthetic hair has other needs than human hair. This is why ellen wille Expert Care offers products especially for synthetic hair. Conventional care products, such as those used for natural hair, are not suitable for synthetic alternative hair.
How often should the synthetic hair be cleaned?
With synthetic hair, the recommended frequency of cleaning depends crucially on the intensity of use. Regular care increases the life of the synthetic wig or hairpiece and ensures that you have long lasting pleasure in it. Our recommendation for a daily average use is to clean the synthetic hair about once or twice a week.
Step-by-step instructions for cleaning synthetic hair
- Add a hazelnut-sized amount of ellen wille Synthetic Hair Shampoo to about one litre of lukewarm water.
- Shake the synthetic hair model gently before placing it in the water bath with the Synthetic Hair Shampoo.
- Leave the synthetic hair wig or hairpiece in the shampoo bath for about 10 minutes. The Synthetic Hair Shampoo is self-cleaning. Please never rub or wring the hair!
- Rinse the synthetic hair with clear, lukewarm water after about 10 minutes. Please do not rub or wring!
- To maintain the hair structure and keep the synthetic hair soft and supple, we recommend a second rinse with ellen wille Synthetic Hair Balm.
- Add a little of the ellen wille Synthetic Hair Balm to a new, fresh water bath and let it work for another 10 minutes. Rinse the wig or hairpiece thoroughly and let it air-dry.
- Important: Please never rub your synthetic wig of hairpiece dry with a towel. You can, however, carefully comb them with a soft, nubbed brush. After air drying, the wig or hairpiece will return to its original shape on its own.
A care tip from the expert
The ellen wille Synthetic Hair Conditioner offers ideal protection and long-lasting shine for synthetic hair. After cleansing, apply a few sprays of the conditioner from a distance of about 10 cm into the dried hair. Do not hesitate to apply the conditioner on a daily basis.
Styling tips for synthetic hair & high-heat hair
When styling synthetic wigs, it is important to distinguish between classic synthetic hair and heat-friendly high-heat fibres. In general, synthetic hair should not be treated with heat tools (straighteners, curling irons, etc.), as this will damage the fibres.
Only hair fibres explicitly labelled as high-heat hair are suitable for styling with straighteners, curlers or curling irons, and even then, please ensure that the tools are temperature-regulated and that the high-heat fibres are not exposed to temperatures exceeding 130°C (265°F).
Permanent styling of high-heat with styling tools (wavy, straight, curly)
- Dampen the hair and spray it with anti-static spray or heat protection spray.
- Preheat the temperature-adjustable styling tool to a maximum of 130° Celsius (265°F)
- For waves: Work individual strands into the damp hair with a curling iron.
- For curls: Twist the curls into the damp hair with a curling iron. You can enhance the curl effect by fixing the warm curls with hairpins (bobby pins) before they cool down.
- To straighten: Separate the hair into sections. Straighten the individual sections while damp using a straightening iron.
- To crimp: Use the crimping iron on damp hair for about 3–5 seconds.
- Allow the new look to cool, preferably on a wig stand.
The perfect finish with Expert Care products
- Styling Mousse: Work a walnut-sized amount of mousse into damp human hair and style as desired.
- Hair Spray: Spray the hairspray from a distance of 20-30 cm. Then comb as usual or style as desired. The ellen wille hairspray has an anti-static effect, does not stick and can be brushed out without leaving any residue.
